Before we got married, my wife made me watch X-Files from start to finish to make sure I was worthy. Now she has me working my way through another favorite, Criminal Minds. While I didn’t realize it until recently, Tony Todd makes memorable appearances in both of these shows. Obviously, he’s known for horror but he’s done everything from westerns to Scooby Doo. My point is that while you may know him as Candyman, he’s a lot more than that. He’s a staple, he’s a legend and I can’t believe he spent his day off talking to me.
Fortunately, this isn’t my first run-in with Tony, and a lot like his performances, he’s a daunting man. But despite his larger-than-life voice and towering frame, he’s a humble man that loves the craft, his work, and most importantly the fans. He mentions Texas Frightmare during our conversation, and while we don’t discuss it, I can recall him going out of his way to cheer up a random attendee that was having a bad day.
As mentioned above, Todd is more than just a scary guy covered in bees. In his latest feature, All Gone Wrong, he plays a crime boss with enough swagger to make Tony Soprano blush. And while the film is Josh Guffey’s directorial debut, you’d never know watching it. There are so many twists and turns, and Guffey seems to handle the reigns effortlessly.
All Gone Wrong starring Tony Todd and Jake Kaufman, will be released on January 27th to Apple TV+, iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, Google Play, and Cable On Demand. If you’re a fan of crime thrillers, be sure to give it a go. Think Training Day meets Cop Land.
