I had a fantastic time chatting with Simon Phillips, the star of the upcoming horror film The Mouse Trap. Renowned for his roles in Netflix’s FUBAR and The Witcher Season 3, Phillips shared his excitement about this groundbreaking film that reimagines the iconic Mickey Mouse from Steamboat Willie in a chilling new light.
The Mouse Trap is the first horror film to feature Mickey Mouse from Steamboat Willie, a character that entered the public domain on January 1, 2024. This unique twist plunges Mickey into a series of dark and violent scenarios, blending nostalgic elements with horror in an unexpected and thrilling way. Director Jamie Bailey described it as "Steamboat Willie's Mickey Mouse murdering people. It’s ridiculous. We had fun making it, and it shows."
Phillips, who plays the film's villain, expressed his enthusiasm: “We had a childlike excitement making the film. We love the creative freedom the character’s public domain status provided. Fun is what you’ll get watching it.”
Produced by Paul Whitney, Mark Popejoy, Alexander Gausman, and Andrew Agopsowicz, with Mem Ferda of Filmcore as co-producer, The Mouse Trap promises a blend of humor and horror that is both entertaining and unsettling.
Phillips, acclaimed for his standout performances in horror films such as Once Upon A Time At Christmas and Butchers, continues to deliver intensity and depth in The Mouse Trap. Don’t miss this innovative horror film, now available on all TVOD/digital platforms. The DVD/Blu-Ray release is set for August 13th, 2024. Gravitas Ventures will handle the film’s distribution across the United States and Canada, ensuring a broad release for this unique feature.
