Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey is a 2023 British independent slasher film written, directed, and produced by Rhys Frake-Waterfield. The film retells the Winnie-the-Pooh books in a horror setting, with Craig David Dowsett starring as Pooh and Chris Cordell as Piglet. It follows them as they kill a group of young university women and an adult Christopher Robin when he returns to the Hundred Acre Wood many years later.
The announcement of the film drew widespread attention because it involved a character that had a reputation as a beloved childhood icon. The film went into development after the book entered the public domain- for a budget of $100,000. A fourteen-day shoot for the film took place in England's Ashdown Forest- which serves as inspiration for the Hundred Acre Wood, the setting for Winnie-the Pooh stories.
I was fortunate enough to discuss the film with a handful of the cast, one of them being mister silly ole bear himself, Craig Dowsett.
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey was theatrically released in the United States on February 15, 2023. The film has been met with negative reviews from critics for its low budget and production values, as well as a lack of story and creativity. But despite the negative response from critics, the fans have spoken. The film has grossed over $2.8 million worldwide and the theatrical run continues.
