Josh Hasty - Candy Corn, In Hell Everybody Loves Popcorn, 31 (2019) #video

I’m almost positive I’ve been seeing Candy Corn for a few years now, and I can remember seeing it on the front page IndieGoGo too. So, needless to say, Josh Hasty's love letter to the season of Halloween has been on my radar for quite some time. I got a chance to check it out a few months ago, and it didn't disappoint.

It’s Halloween weekend and a group of bullies are planning their annual hazing on local outcast, Jacob Atkins. When they take things too far, he’s resurrected to seek revenge against those that wronged him.

What I liked about the film most was that it felt like one of those random horror films you’d randomly catch on TV, but at the same time it felt timeless. There wasn't anything particular that linked it to a particular era. That seems pretty hard to pull off, and I think the environment played a huge part in selling that idea.

While Candy Corn can be best digested in the month of October, the film can be appreciated at any time of the year. I think that fact that Josh has a trilogy penned says a lot about the power of the initial film, and you should want to be THE "cool friend" and check it out before the second or third one rolls out.

And homages aren't everything that Josh has up his sleeve. So, while he has a huge appreciation for the cult films of the video store years, he's working on an original idea. And, yeah, this has me excited. You should be too. Because, if you listened to the interview, and you should, Josh is the future, and you should get on board his spaceship now!

Josh Hasty's Candy Corn stars Horror Film Icons like Courtney Gains, PJ Soles, Tony Todd, and newcomer Pancho Moler. It's available on both Blu-ray and VOD, so check it out today!
