Brooklyn Horror Film Fest (2022)

Like with Fantastic Fest, I’ve never attended Brooklyn Horror, and with FF wrapping up and Halloween right around the corner, of course, I’d take a stab at watching a few horror films that hadn’t been released yet. While I wish I had gotten to more, I very much enjoyed viewing and covering the films that I had time to watch. There are a bunch of gems here, so I’d say that horror is in good hands for the years moving forward.

  • The Weird Kidz (2022) ★★

Despite the sometimes questionable dialog and distracting animation, The Weird Kidz is still an overall enjoyable venture. Fun but probably needed one more editing pass. Think Beavis & Butthead meet Stranger Things.

  • Sinphony (2022) ★

Most anthologies have their ups and downs, it's very rare to find a film with nothing but downs. The filmmakers assumed that if they had a fun mascot that viewers would overlook the bad storytelling.

  • Mother, May I? (2022) ★★★

Ti West move over, there's a new slow-burn king! Laurence Vannicelli delivers a beautifully crafted thriller that will have you guessing, and the performances from the leads are just as eerie as they are captivating!

  • Influencer (2022) ★★★★

What a ride! Influencer is special, and if I didn't know any better, I'd say Adrian Lyne was involved. Takes all of the beats from your favorite 90s thriller and executes them with ease! Ingrid Goes... all in!

  • Flowing (2022) ★★★½

We're facing arguably the biggest monster of all, grief. And once Paolo Strippoli crosses the line, things stay brutal! The haunting visuals and melancholy tone guide you through a dreamlike state up until the final reveal.

Again, solid stuff here. Obviously, you can see by the star ratings that I liked some of these better than others, but they all hold some merit in one way or another. If you have the time and are feeling spooky, I suggest taking a look at any of the films mentioned above as well as maybe attending Brooklyn Horror Film Festival for their next event.
